Last week, Toronto Women’s Fashion Week kicked off its FW18 calendar with a series of runway shows. In this blog post, I would like to focus on, of course, outerwear for next fall + winter seasons as well as on gowns because they are just too beautiful to not to be shown. 😍
MIKAEL D
For FW18, MIKAEL D plays with the themes of light and darkness, while evoking an ethereal, luxurious and seductive feel, with a classic, yet modern look. The collection’s myriad of influences and characteristics have created some of the most captivating silhouettes. His designs draw on the obliteration of the norms in romanticism and beauty, and a harsh resurgence of elegance through deconstruction.
“As I travel the world, one thing always remains endearing to me; I’m a global ambassador for Canadian fashion. It is very exciting to see year after year how our fashion industry continues to grow and thrive each time I have the pleasure of coming home. I’m very honoured to be apart of it,” Mikael Derderian, owner and designer of MIKAEL D, said.
Joseph Tassoni
In collaboration with Redken Canada, Joseph Tassoni’s latest collection is a journey through his mythical Canadian queen’s secret winter garden where colours are frozen in time. The emphasis this season focuses on the brilliant and vibrant hues that can be found in nature. Tassoni and Redken Canada created an unprecedented runway show that highlighst the elaborate colour scheme from hair to toe. Tassoni’s outwear showcases a variety of materials like cashmere, wool and silk in his signature fits designed to compliment the wearer now not how they need to be.
“My latest collection continues the journey of my Canadian queen that was front and centre during the Canada 150 show last season,” Joseph Tassoni said. “It will explore her world even further through vibrant colour palettes and luxurious materials in outerwear made for every woman. I’m thankful to have Redken Canada onboard to help share my vision and bring the collection to life.”
Stephan Caras
Inspired by opulence and femininity, the emphasis of this season’s collection is placed on the use of luxurious textures, sophisticated lines and exquisite detailing. Plunging neck lines, asymmetric treatments and fun flirty contours connect to create dramatic silhouettes. The collection seduces through the use of bold colour palettes in floral undertones.
“Our FW18 collection is inspired by women who enjoy a touch of drama in their outfits, demonstrating their individuality and sensuality,” designer Stephan Caras said. “This bold collection is a fashion forward statement and an ode to the strength of confident women.”
“Our philosophy has always been to create collections that are feminine and sensual. For FW18, we showcase a vivid palette of colour that emphasize opulence. Sleek shapes achieve a balance between elegance and drama,” co-designer Kyriako Caras added.
RUDSAK
Travelling seamlessly between art, music and design, the brand creates edgy, elegant footwear, outerwear, apparel, bags and accessories grounded in the brand’s Canadian heritage and Montreal roots. Known for its rebellious spirit, RUDSAK’s newest designs are about luxe leathers, furs and fabrics that are trimmed with signature hardware and details. Synonymous with effortless style, this collection adds daring, contemporary twists to classic silhouettes that celebrate individuality and self-expression.
“I’ve been designing for over 25 years and, amazingly, still feel that creative rush stemming from the creation of every new collection. I truly relish the creative process every season, striving to inject fresh seasonal twists to the fashion we’re creating while upholding that edgy rebel spirit that sets us apart,” designer Evik Asatoorian said.
