The Only 5 Brushes You Need In Your Makeup Bag

The Only 5 Brushes You Need In Your Makeup Bag

Considering how big makeup is on today’s beauty scene, I started my journey with makeup pretty late. The products that I was using in my late teens were limited to a mascara and powder (plus, an eyeshadow and lipstick on a big event) as I was afraid of looking like a clown. Putting on a foundation felt like a skin suicide to me and doing a smokey eye was a nightmare I wanted to never come back. The reason why makeup used to bring so many negative emotions in me is because I was completely intimidated by tools that come with it. I remember watching different beauty vloggers and being amazed not only by their makeup, but also by the fact that they actually knew what brush to use when. Using so many brushes on just one face and memorizing their specific purposes was pretty impressive to me (still is). Watching one of thousands makeup videos I have seen, I heard someone saying that ‘your face is your canvas’ and that was a turning point in my life. I mean, back in the day, in my art classes I somehow, probably instinctively, knew what brush use when, so it can’t be that hard, right?

Turned out it is not hard at all as long as you have brushes that are easy for you to work with (remember how you always had your favourite brushes in your art classroom and got upset when someone was quicker t0 grab them?). After trying and experimenting with so many of them, I chose these five (honestly, you don’t need more) that I love the most and use no matter if I do my everyday or glam makeup. They are all from Sephora, but their shapes and functions can be found in any other brand.

Enjoy my guide! 😘

Shader Brush

Sephora Collection Pro Shader Brush #18 is an angled shadow brush that applies powder and cream formulas with ease. It lets to sweep colour across lids with the expert accuracy of this shader brush. The domed tip is shaped to work on the browbone, over the lid, and under the orbital bone with detailed application. The natural pony bristles are small and tight—perfect for detailed work and achieving your ideal look. It is a must-have! 💁🏼‍♀️

 Airbrush Crease

Sephora Collection Pro Airbrush Crease #31 is a brush with synthetic bristles for even shadow application in the crease or a professional smoky eye. The specific medium size dome shape allows you to taper and blend precisely, while the synthetic bristles offer comfortable application and intensity control. I like to use this brush along the crease of the eye to add definition and make eyes appear larger while adding depth. 🤩

Classic Multitasker Brush

Sephora Collection Classic Multitasker Brush #45 is ideal for loose or pressed formulas. Its shape makes it easier to make circular movements required for applying any powders and its synthetic bristles are great for mixing heavier textures. It is my go-to brush for any face powders and pressed powder blushes. ☺️

Double Ended – Filler & Spoolie

Sephora Collection Classic Double Ended – Filler & Spoolie #208 is a double-ended eyebrow tool that features an angled brush and comb in one. This classic makeup essential flawlessly applies brow pigments, shapes, and combs out fine eyebrow hairs for sleek, natural, and bold looks. Ask my boyfriend, he will tell you the most important three things in my life is food, sleep, and BROWS, so believe me on this one. 🙊

 Contour Sweep Brush

Sephora Collection Pro Contour Sweep Brush #97 is a contouring tool that offers seamless blending and effortless application. It has a one-of-a-kind, high-density oval brush head that is flexible enough to blend complexion products, but firm enough to sculpt. The velvet-like edges and shape of the head allow you to use a quick sweeping motion to soften, or to apply product without creating harsh lines. This brush was the reason why I started contouring my face with a bronzer on a daily basics – it is so soft on my face! 😍
