Summer 2016: Postcards from Santorini

Summer 2016: Postcards from Santorini

Santorini was my dream travel destination in a really long time. This summer, I finally got a chance to visit this beautiful island and I completely fell in love with it!

Santorini is a Greek island, which is essentially what remains after an enormous volcanic eruption that destroyed the earliest settlements on a formerly single island and created the current geological caldera, in the southern Aegean Sea. The island is relatively small, so it is easy to rent a car, travel around, visit all of the major cities, and try delicious local food.

Oia, 2016

Oia is the most famous town that offers many touristic attractions. This place is known for the white-and-blue-painted houses and churches as well as the sunset view observed from this part of the island. An enormous amount of people come each day to Oia just to admire the view of the sun going down from the tip of the island, so it is necessary to arrive there earlier in order to save a good spot for watching the sunset. Sunsets seen from Oia are like a beautiful show on the sky and they are totally worth the wait!

Thira, 2016

Thira is the main town of Santorini and known for its night life. There are many cafes, restaurants, bars, patios, museums, art galleries, and stores to keep tourists entertained. It is a perfect place to hang out, get something to eat and admire beautiful views from Thira, which by the way are pretty spectacular since this town is located in the middle of the island – both ends of the island that form into a moon crescent shape are seen from.

Very important note, they serve the best Gyros and frozen yogurt in Thira.

Kamari, 2016

Kamari is for those who prefer living a beach life over being a crazy tourist. Kamari beach is just as beautiful as sunset views from Oia – the long stretch of black sand lies under the impressive Mesa Vouno Mountain. The water is deep, clean, and blue – just ideal for diving! Indeed, Kamari beach is not the only attraction there. After swimming, sunbathing, and having a dinner by the sea, Mesa Vouno Mountain is there to climb it and to admire the amazing views (especially at night) from its top.
