We all remember to pack sunscreen to avoid sunburn when we are going for a summer vacation, but the truth is that sunscreen should be always in our beauty closet. No matter if it is sunny, rainy, cloudy or snowy outside, ultraviolet rays that are the cause of sun damage and skin cancer are always present. It means that wearing sunscreen every day of the year should be a habit like brushing teeth. Yes, I know that it is an extra step in your beauty routine, but trust me your skin will thank you as you will get older.
Here is why wearing sunscreen is an important preventive health care habit:
- It blocks UV rays and protects your skin from them.
- By applying sunscreen each day, you lower your skin cancer risk.
- It prevents premature aging of the skin.
- Sunscreen helps maintain an even skin tone.
I must confess I haven’t been always good with sunscreen, my body gets easily tanned without any sunburns, so I have never thought about it. I’ve associated face sunscreen with an additional, sticky layer that would made my skin more oily than it already is. It took me a while to come to the conclusion that I was WRONG and it happened after the conversation I had with my grandma who used to tan a lot like me and now suffers from skin discolouration and dark spots caused by sun damage. (Note: She is a beauty guru, does makeup better than anyone I know and has beauty tricks for everything. After she saved me with her knowledge and oils from my super thin eyebrows when there was no help for them, I religiously follow her instructions. So when grandma says to not to tan my face and wear sunscreen – I do it).
I have done some research and it turned out sunscreens don’t have to be greasy and sticky. There is plenty of products to choose from depending on your needs, for example creams, lotions, sprays, and gels. SPF can come even in foundations, primers, powders, as well as BB and CC creams, so there is no way one can complain about not having options. If my sunscreen and I can be best friends, you can find the one that works for you too! ☀️
If you are lost or overwhelmed by many options, here is my checklist of what to look for in a sunscreen:
Review: Bioré UV Aqua Rich Watery Essence SPF50+/PA++++
To start my journey with face sunscreen, I decided to get my hands on the much-adored, highly praised, Holy Grail SPF — Bioré UV Aqua Rich Watery Essence sunscreen. This impressive SPF 50 turns out to be a perfect product for me and I recommend it to everyone! It contains hyaluronic acid, royal jelly extract, and citrus mix. The last one gives the product a light citrusy smell, which is is really enjoyable in comparison to other artificially smelling sunscreens we all know about. This sunscreen’s formula is lightweight while its watery texture is not sticky and it absorbs like a dream. The best thing about this product is that it doesn’t make my skin greasy and lets my skin breath with unclogged pores. Another bonus is that it does not have white-cast, which can show up with bright light or with flash photography, so I don’t have to worry about looking like a ghost! 👻🙊
While many Bioré products are sold in North America, the other major setback of this sunscreen is that it is sold abroad and you have to look for it on Amazon, from a retailer that ships to Canada.
Don’t forget to wear sunscreen every day babes! ☀️
